Taos - Foothills
With Taos nestled against up against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains,
properties with views over the town sit in the foothills not far to the
east. They provide a desirable combination of views and close-in
convenience. Pinon and Juniper trees cover most of the ground in
this area and frame the views of the nearby mountains and town.
Due to its attractiveness, prices are higher than most other
regions, and "the higher you go, the higher you go" rule
applies here. Most of the
homes are upscale and pueblo style. With the exception of the
area right around the hospital, the region is entirely residential.
This region also includes in Pot Creek zone because its homes and land cover are
similar to those in the other foothills zones, even though it lacks the views over the valley. If it were a large community, it
would warrant its own zone, but due to the small number of properties,
it is combined with the Taos Foothills zone.

The Taos MLS divides this area into four MLS zones:
Canon Foothills (09B)
This zone features large homes that overlook Taos and the surrounding
valleys with good views also of Taos Mountain. The majority of
this zone sits to the north of Kit Carson Road (US 64) - especially
along Piedmont Road, but a small portion exists along the eastern
portion of Witt Road and top
of Cruz Alta Road. Ground cover is pinon and juniper.
Este Es Road (23A)
Este Es Road (the street, not the zone) meets NM 68 by Rio Grande Ace
Hardware and travels east to where it ends in the Talpa Foothills.
The boundaries of this zone are difficult to determine since the
commercial western portion of the road clearly belongs in the
Town of
Taos zone, the top probably belongs in the Talpa Foothills zone.
The middle is an area where Weimer,
Talpa Foothills, Talpa,
Ranchos, and
the Town of Taos zones all meet and overlap. Because of the
vagueness and confusing nature of this zone, it is seldom used.
Properties with Este Es Road addresses are often not even listed as
being in this zone. Assume that any listings are in the vicinity
of the road.
Pot Creek (32A)
This community sits about 5 miles upstream from
Talpa on NM 518 next
to Southern Methodist University's Fort Bergwin summer campus.
Pinon pine and juniper combined with taller ponderosa pines to cover the
ground here. Carson National Forest completely surrounds the
community and defines its boundaries.
Talpa Foothills (43B)
Overlooking the towns of Talpa and
Taos sits this zone at the
southern portion of the mountains next to the towns. Any
properties south of Espinosa Road and East of Maestas Road definitely
fall in this zone. Those between Espinosa and Weimer Roads are in
an area which some consider Weimer and others consider Talpa Foothills.
Pinon and Juniper dominate the land cover in this area with a few
irrigated fields at the lower edges.
Weimer (25A)
This upscale and highly desirable area surrounds the Holy Cross
Hospital on its namesake Weimer Road. Aside from the small economy
houses on La Luz street, most houses are high end and Pueblo style with
buried utilities to preserve the views.
As a very attractive zone, listings in nearby areas often "creep"
into Weimer. Anything between Weimer Road and the mountains to the
east is definitely Weimer. Less clear are the areas on Morgan
Road, Maestas south of Weimer and between Weimer and Espanosa Roads
which are most often listed as Weimer, but could possibly be considered
other zones such as Este Es Road and
Talpa Foothills.
