Red River
About 12 miles east of Questa on NM 38 you find the former mining
town, now ski town of Red River. The main town area lines the main
highway for about one mile and back for a couple of blocks on each side.
Typical tourist shops with an old western town motif line the main
street. The ski runs come right down to the south end of town.
The town contains a mix of condos and single family homes. Towards
the southeast end of town the main highway leads off to the left towards
Bobcat Pass and NM 578 continues up the valley to the right to more
houses. Properties within the town limits of Red River feature all
utilities including water and sewer. The upper valley area
(upstream and south of the town) does not have sewer and smaller lots
and those adjacent to the river may be difficult to develop due to
septic regulations and the desire to keep the river clean.
