Angel Fire and Eagle Nest
The Moreno Valley provides New Mexico its only large high alpine
valley surrounded by the states' highest mountains and features the
region's largest lake. Recreation abounds varying from skiing and
golfing at Angel Fire Resort to fishing, boating, hiking, and a variety
of winter sports. Delightfully cool summers attract visitors and
residents from neighboring sweltering states. This former ranchland has become a center for
second homes and retirees seeking an active lifestyle.

The Taos MLS divides this area into three MLS zones:
Angel Fire (04A)
Dominated by the Angel Fire Ski area, this region covers the
southern portion of the Moreno Valley. Properties within the
resort/town limits have covenants and restrictions that ensure
compatibility of neighboring homes. Within the resort, both landowners and homeowners must pay annual resort fees with a basic fee
covering fishing in Monte Verde Lake and allowing use of common area green
space. More expensive memberships provide golf and/or ski
benefits.
In addition to being a resort community, Angel Fire has a reputation
for lower home prices than comparable properties nearer to Taos. A
fair number of people commute from Angel Fire to Taos for employment.
Black Lake (06B)
Just over a low mountain pass south from Angel Fire, Black Lake keeps its
rural feel with ranch land dominating the scenery. The area is
remote with no services. This zone includes the Hidden Lake
subdivision to the southeast which has some of the very few lakefront
properties in Northern New Mexico.
Eagle Nest (18A)
The quaint mountain town of Eagle Nest with its western false front
architecture gives this zone its
name. It comprises the northern half of the Moreno Valley. Within this zone you also find Northern Central New Mexico's
largest lake. A number of cabins and summer homes surround the
town area in the nearby hills.
