This 3 bedroom 2 bath bermed home uses many energy efficient design
features such as the berm surrounding the house on three sides, the
passive solar design, and the thermal mass for climate control. It
differs from earthships in that it is on the grid and is not made from
recycled materials. While it is on the Grid, its very
environmentally friendly design results in a very comfortable house with
minimal utility bills. Propane and electric total about $60 a
month year round - so this house saves hundreds of dollars over most
conventional homes - and you don't have to be uncomfortable to
live affordably.
The following video tour will introduce you to this beautiful home.

Upon walking up to this unique home it is apparent that
it is designed for maximum benefit of the solar gain that is so abundant
in the Taos area. The many south-facing windows of this home flood
the home with warmth and light - especially in the winter when the low
sun angle makes light and heat so much more important. The thermal
mass of the home keeps it at a comfortable temperature year round.
You enter into the great room through the door shown in
the picture above. Here you see the dining area to the left and a
sitting area by the wood burning stove to the right. This picture
also shows the bright sunny nature of the house.
The kitchen sits at the back of the great room.
When working at the sink, the chef has a great view of the recessed
courtyard, trees, and mountains beyond. The open nature of the
kitchen provides a wonderful entertaining space. The back corner
of this picture contains a faux fireplace plumbed with a gas line should
you desire to convert it to a functioning one.
Adjacent to the kitchen, a large pantry includes
space for all of your cooking needs and can even fit an upright freezer
if you desire.
From the Great Room, this hall leads to the rest of the
house. The bedrooms are on the right - sunny side insuring that
each room has plenty of light.
The first bedroom on the right can also function as an
office space.
Across from the first bedroom lies the laundry room -
with lots of space.
Beyond the laundry room sits the bathroom with its own
tub and shower.
The second bedroom presently functions as an art studio.
Not shown in the pictures are the closets that each bedroom has.
The master bedroom sits at the far end of the home.
Its own entrance gives it a private screened off patio - perfect for
sunbathing or reading a book on a quiet afternoon.
You can pamper yourself in this spacious master bath
features a double sinks, separate tub and shower areas and a large walk
in closet.
The Site
The plat here shows another fabulous feature of this
home: Land - lots of it!. 3.27 acres and a barn/garage make
this a wonderful horse property. You and your beasts will have
plenty of room to roam on this beautiful hilltop property.
The detached barn/carport serves many purposes.
The stall on the left has been used for horses in the past. The
two stalls on the right function as a carport. A large locked-off
area behind the car stalls provides ample and secure storage for all of
your outdoor gear and yard equipment.
